Five Steps to Picking a Handicapper

Despite what they'd tell you, NFL Handicappers aren't for everyone. If you're the small-time guy or the casual bettor there's no reason to spend $50 on a handicapper for a $50 bet. But if you're tossing a couple hundred a game, what's another $50 if only to confirm your thought process. That said, what makes a good handicapper? Is there any way to distinguish one Internet ad from another, especially since they all have a quart of gel in their hair?

They win, You win

You should pay for a guarantee. If they'll guarantee winners, even if it's a credit for their next play they have a stake in your stake. Now, is this the sole reason to play with someone? No. Absolutely not. Because they could be picking garbage from the dumpster and feeding it to you. What effort does it take to win 40%?

Verified Picks

Is the Handicapper with a site that verifies their picks? If not, there are plenty who sign up with sites, like Handicapping Police, that collect their picks and post their records. If the handicapper isn't having someone verify their picks, who do you trust?

Their Track Record

Record isn't everything but dig into whether they've had any luck playing MLB or NBA. Many guys started out dong NFL, maybe they understand NFL, how do you know they understand NHL, too? Or WNBA? Check their records before placing a bet. If they have a good handle on the College Hoops, then try them. If they're a lamb led to slaughter this baseball season, walk away.

Patience

One of my former girlfriends said it best, "You'll never find love hopping from bed to bed." Patience is important after hooking up with a handicapper. They won't win every day, week or month. If you're not patient you're taking chances of hitting another guy on a bad streak. Like jumping from bed to bed and finding the husband came home from work sick... not good form.

Price

If price is an object, take up knitting.
